Brimfield Public Library District is proud to announce that it has been awarded a $7,500 Project Next Generation (PNG) grant, marking the library’s eleventh year of participation in the statewide program.

Project Next Generation is designed to provide students ages 10–18 with access to technology-supported, project-based learning experiences. Through the program, students work with mentors in a variety of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) fields to build technical skills, creativity, and critical thinking abilities.

This year’s STEAM focus highlights digital illustration and maker technologies. Funding from the grant allows students to explore creative and technical projects using digital illustration software, iPads, Apple Pencils, and a Cricut Maker, offering hands-on opportunities to learn industry-relevant tools in a supportive environment.

Project Next Generation funding also supports several ongoing and collaborative initiatives, including FIRST LEGO League and FIRST Tech Challenge robotics teams. Additional partnerships include a 3D design and printing project with the Brimfield Grade School’s 6th-grade class and a personal history digital illustration project with the 8th-grade class. The 8th-grade project will be featured during the Brimfield Grade School Promotion.

These initiatives reflect the Brimfield Public Library District’s continued commitment to expanding educational opportunities for local youth and fostering innovation, creativity, and problem-solving skills beyond the traditional classroom.

Funding for this grant was awarded by the Illinois State Library, a Department of the Office of Secretary of State, using funds provided by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services, under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA).
